EMS to Host Outdoor Sporting Demo at Hale

Attendees can take 20% of their next purchase of a kayak or accessories.

Outdoor sports fanatics won't want to miss an event coming up at this weekend. 

A handful of representatives from nearby Eastern Mountain Sports stores will be on hand Saturday to provide attendees with kayak and other outdoor sporting demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., free of charge. 

Those who attend will be able to take 20 percent off their next purchase of a kayak or related accessories a nearby store.

"Basically, they get to come screw around with us, and then they get a discount," said Celesete Carolin, a representative from the Harvard Square branch of EMS. "It's about getting people who have never done this kind of stuff to get outside and try new sports."

The event will take place on the shore of Noanet Pond at Hale, which shares a border with Dover and Westwood, and will feature demos for kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, mountain bikes, road bikes and trail running.

"You have all the different styles of boats, and you can get in one and feel the difference of the water," said Chris Murphy, a representative of the Harvard Square store. "You can really compare the different boats, which is why we're doing this."

It is the second year the crew will be holding such a demo, but the first time they group is doing so at Hale, in an effort to boost awareness of stores nearby Westwood, such as in and . 

The group has been touring in various parts of the country holding such demos, including in Annapolis, Delaware, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Connecticut and elsewhere Last year, the group held demonstrations in Hingham, and was on-hand in Northborough two weeks ago.
