Peace Abbey's Gandhi Statue Found
Director of the Peace Abbey Lewis Randa is in contact with the person who has the Gandhi statue.
Sherborn Peace Abbey director Lewis Randa said they have found the whereabouts of their statue of Mohandas Gandhi, which went missing after scores of protesters left their Occupy Boston encampment at Dewey Square late Thursday night.
Randa said that a protester took the statue to keep it safe and he was in contact with the person about retrieving it.
"We’re happy to have it back," Randa said.
Once they get the statue it will return to the Peace Abbey where Randa will make some minor repairs and refurbishments. Throughout its time at Occupy Boston, Randa said it had gone through some wear and tear and had cracks and scrapes from being dragged.
“It needs some attention. It's not meant to be outdoors that long. It was out there for three months,” said Randa.
He said that before the protest the longest it had been outside was about two days.
After being refurbished, Randa said that Gandhi will go back to work travelling to different colleges and universities educating people about non-violence.
