Weekend Planner: Jan. 27-29

Music, theater and comedy on the calendar this weekend.

 

The weekend is just around the corner. If the only plans you have is not to stay home because lounging on the couch and watching TV just isn't cutting it anymore, then don't worry, D-S Patch is here to assist you! Check out our list of suggestions of events to attend, places to go, sites to see – all within driving distance of home. 

1. The Woodland Theatre Company presents the musical "Cabaret"

Where/When: Medfield High School, at the Lowell Mason Auditorium, 88r South St., Medfield; Fri., Jan. 27, 8 p.m.; Sat., Jan. 28, 8 p.m. and Sun., Jan. 29, 2 p.m.

Why Go: Winner of 12 Tony Awards and 8 Academy Award, Cabaret, focuses on nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub on the eve of Hitler’s rise to power in Germany in the 1930's. The story revolves around English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with the young American writer Cliff Bradshaw. Musical numbers include, Wilkommen, Money, and Cabaret.  

Cabaret is based on the music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, book by Joe Masteroff, directed by Doug Hodge and music direction by Julia Scott Carey.

This show contains adult subject matter and is recommended for mature audiences.

2. Steve Marchena at Perks Coffeehouse

Where/When: Perks Coffeehouse, 685 Washington St., Norwood; Fri., Jan. 27, 8 p.m.

Why Go: Steve Marchena will take the stage at Perks Coffeehouse for a Solo Classical performance at 8 p.m.

Pricing: Free, open to all.

3. Comedy Show at the Orpheum

Where/When: Orpheum Theatre, 1 School St, Foxboro; Fri., Jan. 27, 8:00 p.m.

Why Go:  Comedy headliner Ace Aceto along with Brian Beaudoin, Louie Bercelli, Ryan Staples, Shawn Donovan and Justin Drew will perform live at the Orpheum tonight at 8:00 p.m. House band Red Fox Motel will perform, and a beer and wine cash bar will be available.

Pricing: General Admission is $15, and tickets can be purchased HERE.

4. Sherborn Inn Bridal Open House

Where/When: Sherborn Inn, 33 N. Main St., Sherborn; Sun., Jan. 29, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Wedding plans in the future? The Sherborn Inn will host a Winter Bridal Open House featuring refreshments, champagne and music and over 20 vendors who will be onsite to answer any questions you may have.  Pre-register Banquets@sherborninn.com

Pricing: This event is free.

5.  Medfield High School Hosts 'Dancing with the Warriors' Ballroom Dance Showcase

Where/When: Medfield High School, 88r South St., Medfield; Sun., Jan. 29, 1 to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Karen Renaud's ballroom dance students at Medfield High School will put their dancing skills and talents on display during the school's Ballroom Dance Showcase. Students will do a full group performance of Waltz, Tango, and Hustle and small groups will also perform Triple time swing, Salsa, Rumba, Foxtrot, and Cha Cha. 

Pricing: $5 for students and $7 for adults.
