The Massachusetts governor addressed energy efficiency in his remarks.
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick spoke at an energy summit in Foxborough Tuesday, elaborating on work done to make the state's energy supply more environmentally friendly. The governor, speaking in front of the "Massachusetts: Leading the Nation in the Energy Savings Revolution" summit at Gillette Stadium, noted that the state had been named the most energy-efficient state by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. The state wrested that title from longtime green energy leader California. "More than 42 percent of Massachusetts residents — 2.7 million people — live in one of the state's 86 green communities," he said. "We are investing more per capita than any other state." Paying for Commuter Rail rides will soon be easier.
Starting in the fall, commuter rail riders will be able to buy tickets using their smartphones, according to Boston.com The MBTA plans to roll out a new mobile app that would allow users to purchase commuter rail tickets on the iPhone, Blackberry or Android smartphones, according to Boston.com. One-way, round trip, 10 ride tickets and monthly tickets would be available. The app would hopefully reduce the number of cash transactions conductors would have to make and make fare collection more efficient. The Massachusetts Executive Office for Labor and Workforce Development announced last week that the unemployment rate had remained steady in the state for February. The rate for the past three months has been 6.9 percent. Some claim that the unchanged rate is a sign of stagnation in Massachusetts. The office, however, notes that the rate is significantly lower than the national average of 8.3 percent. So, what do you think? From gluten-free crab cakes, to sushi, to pulled pork sandwiches, to a French toast cupcake topped with bacon, there was something for everyone at the 2nd Annual Taste of MetroWest.
More than a 1,000 people attended the 2nd Annual Taste of MetroWest, sponsored by the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce, at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel Tuesday night. Chamber CEO & President Bonnie Biocchi said more than 500 tickets were pre-sold. MetroWest Medical Center with its elaborate ice sculpture won best presentation of the night. The Verve at Crowne Plaza in Natick won for for its pear and mascarpone appetizer (best appetizer) and Violet martini (best beverage). Best entree went to Pepper's Fine Catering in Northborough for its coffee-crusted turkey tenderloin with roasted root vegetables.
