The Benjamin Caryl House and the Fisher Barn currently reside on the same property, but only for the past nine years. Both the Caryl House and the Fisher Barn date back to 1777. On June 2, 2000, the Benjamin Caryl House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Reverend Benjamin Caryl was a minister in Dover for 49 years. Dr. George Caryl, his son, lived in the house until his death in 1822. The land that was once the Caryl Farm is now used by the town’s Parks and Recreation department. Caryl Park Playground Looking for ways to get the kids outside? You can take your kids to the Caryl Park playground. It is located behind the historic Caryl House on Dedham Street in Dover. It cannot be seen from the road, one must venture behind the house past the tennis courts and baseball field and walk underneath the shade of trees to view and play in the playground that caters to children of all ages. The former Caryl Farm has three baseball fields, a soccer field, handball courts, tennis courts and hiking trails. Parking is not available at the Caryl House, but there is plenty of …
One of Dover’s more hidden gems is Peters Reservation on Farm St. It is adjacent to Chase Woodlands. It has contains 2.5 miles worth of hiking and is part of the larger Bay Circuit hike which can connect hikers to Wellesley. Parking is limited to four cars and is located at the beginning of Chase Woodlands. Park and then follow the signs to cross the street to Peters. Inside the reservation there is a large piece of land that was once an open space designed by landscape architect Fletcher Steele in the early part of the 20th century.
