Dover and Sherborn got another 12.5 inches of snow last night from the storm, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Hayden Frank. Winds could reach up to as high as 30-35 m.ph. today causing some snow to blow, according to Frank. Dover-Sherborn Public Schools were cancelled today, as well as, the Charles River School in Dover. Just as the frigid temperatures have left the region, another snow storm is following close behind. A winter storm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service in Taunton from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning as another 6-12 inches of snow are expected to fall in Dover and Sherborn. Off and on light snow today will bring 1-2 inches. Snow is expected to stop around 1 p.m. today according to National Weather Service spokesman Bill Simpson. Dover and Sherborn have seen about four to six inches of snow from the storm and can expect at least another two inches before the storm tapers off. The National Weather Service out of Taunton has issued a Winter Storm Warning in Dover and Sherborn with snow expected to begin falling after 3 a.m. early Friday. “A high impact but short duration snowstorm will affect much of the region very late [Thursday night] into early Friday afternoon,” the NWS said in its winter storm warning. The warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. “Heavy snow will have a significant impact on the Friday morning rush hour,” the winter storm warning said. “Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible and roads will quickly become snow covered …
As the temperature drops into the teens tonight the rain may turn into more snow for Dover and Sherborn and fog coupled with slippery road conditions could impact this evening's commute. According to the National Weather Service website, patchy fog could roll into the region between 7:00 p.m. to midnight tonight and there is a chance of another half inch of snow accumulating. Dover-Sherborn Public Schools has cancelled all after school and evening activities today due to the snow storm. The Charles River School is closing two hours early as well. In addition, the Dover Town Library will be closing at 4:00 p.m. today and will cancel tonight's activities. Dover and Sherborn have received about 3-inches of snow today. Plows are out in full force but the roads remain in sloppy condition. The snow has started to turn in to rain in much of the region.
Over 2100 residents in Dover lost power yesterday because of the storm. Today the power is back on, according to authorities. "At this point power has been restored," said Dover police officer Nicole Bratcher. "A majority of the town" was without power Wednesday. “When the storm began yesterday morning that is when we began to receive calls of outages,” said NStar spokesman Mike Durand. Durand said the amount of snow and wind during the storm coupled with how densely wooded the town is contributed to the large number of outages. Dover currently has several power outages throughout the town because of the storm. Dover police said that it is not one specific area but that there are several areas in town currently without power. “They’re all over the place,” said Dover police officer Richard Collamore. Crews are currently working to fix the downed lines and power outages throughout Dover. “I would suspect it would be from the heavy snow,” said Collamore. Governor Deval Patrick has just declared a state of emergency and will call on the National Guard for assistance. Dover and Sherborn got hit with 15-inches of snow from the storm and one to two more inches may fall by day's end, according to the National Weather Service in Boston. Both towns are working hard to plow the roads and clear them of any downed trees or branches. It appears the snow storm is headed out towards Western Massachusetts and Dover and Sherborn are likely to see up to an inch of snow, according to the National Weather Service in Taunton. “We’re not looking for a big impact on this,” said National Weather Service forcaster Charlie Foley. Motorists may want to consider starting their weekend early. Another snowstorm is expected Friday, primarily after 4 p.m. and during the evening, and possibly Saturday, the National Weather Service said on its website Thursday morning. The storm comes nearly two weeks after the blizzard that dropped over 13.5 inches of snow on Dover and Sherborn from Sunday, Dec. 26 to Monday, Dec. 27.
