Today in Dover-Sherborn: Socially Secured, Flowery Homes, In Russia, and More!

Five things you need to know about Dover, Needham and Sherborn on Sept 17, 2013.

1. Sunny, clear, high of 61ºF, low of 37ºF. That's what the National Weather Service is currently predicting for the area. So, bring a sweater with you.

2. This Today In post, the Week Ahead and the Weekender are all fueled by our Events Calendar. So, if you have something going on in town, and we don't have it on our calendar, we can't tell people about it! Post the event on our calendar.

3. You have a home in New England, and you may or may not have flowers. If you are among the people who do, and who want to do something creative and floral around your home, then come and meet a designer with some ideas. The Needham Garden Club is sponsoring, at the Needham Library, a class on Traditional and Creative Designs for New England Homes with Tony Todesco. Starts at 9:30 a.m. A $5 donation is suggested.

4. If you want to know about where a country is, it helps to know where it has been. Modern Russian history is the topic of today's Council on Aging lecture at the Dover Town Library, which is set to run from 10 a.m. to noon today.

5. Ever have burning questions about social security? The program covers 95 percent of workers, so odds are you have it. Want to know what it is and what it does? Stop in at Avery Crossings (110 West Street, Needham) at 2 p.m., and bring your questions.
