DSHS Football Helps Dover Seniors

Raider football players performed a variety of services for Dover seniors this fall.

The following information was provided by Nancy Simms from the Dover Council on Aging:

Twenty members of the Dover Sherborn High School football team, half as many parents and Head Coach Joey Schotland came together to provide a variety of fall services to fifteen of Dover’s senior residents.

The 2012 annual DSHS Football – Dover COA Fall Community Service Day took place on Saturday October 13 and was a huge success for all involved. The high school boys performed a variety of yard work services for their Senior neighbors including, leaf raking, brush clearing, bush trimming, and driveway sweeping.  Several Seniors had the boys clean first floor windows, one had them help her organize and sweep out her garage, and another had them help him with some light farm work at Powissett Farm.

In addition to the satisfaction of helping their fellow citizens, the boys earned community service hours required for graduation and perhaps made a new inter-generational friend or two!

The following boys participated in this volunteer project:  Steven Alessandro, Keith Brockway, Justin Chaudoin, Jason Craig, Mark Czeisler, Ben Ebbs, Will Gooch, John Hargreaves, Chris Macumber, Tyler Mann, Chris Miner, Will Moore, Ethan Pereira, Eric Repinski, Sam Scatchard, Will Sctchard, Keaton Stoner, Brian Thompson, Andy Van Dore and Joe Wirth.

The Dover Council on Aging is grateful for the hard work and time these boys gave to helping some of Dover’s older residents.  Thanks are also due to the parent helpers and to Coach Schotland for working with the COA to make this year’s event another success.

The Council on Aging welcomes volunteer opportunities of all kinds.  Please contact Nancy Simms, COA Volunteer Coordinator, at coavolunteer@doverma.org or at 508-785-0032 (x246) if you would like to explore opportunities for your group to work with the COA.

The Council on Aging wishes the Dover Sherborn High School Football team good luck in the annual Thanksgiving Day Football game against Medfield, scheduled for 10:00am on the Nora Searle Field at Dover Sherborn High School.
