Weekend Planner: Nov. 17-20

The weekend is just around the corner. If the only plans you have are not to stay home because lounging on the couch and watching TV just don’t cut it anymore, then don't worry, D-S Patch is here to assist you! Check out our list of suggestions of events to attend, places to go, sites to see – all within driving distance of home. 

1.  Norwood High School Drama Presents: Amadeus

Where/When: , 245 Nichols St, Norwood; Fri. Nov. 18, 7 p.m., Sat., Nov. 19, 7 p.m., Sun., Nov. 20, 2 p.m.

Why Go: The Norwood High School Drama department is proud to present Peter Shaffer’s Tony award-winning play Amadeus. Based on Alexander Pushkin's 1830 poem, Peter Shaffer's Amadeus depicts the fabled life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as a young upstart musician in eighteenth century Vienna and his encounters with Antonio Salieri, the Viennese court composer who has pledged his life's work to God. Salieri, upon determining that God has blessed Mozart to be his voice on earth, rather than himself, plots the undoing of Mozart's sanity and ultimately his life. Though rooted in fiction, Amadeus resonates with the truth of jealousy and obsession in its musings on real historical characters and events.

Pricing: $10, $5 for students and seniors.

2. Medfield's Annual Pantry Sale at the Peak House

Where/When: , 347 Main St., Medfield; Sat., Nov. 19, 10 a.m.

Why Go:  The Annual Peak House Thanksgiving Day Sale features home-baked pies, breads, cookies, wheels of Vermont Cheddar, jams and jellies located inside Medfield's historic home which is decorated for the Thanksgiving holiday. 

Historical Society memorabilia including cup plates, in a variety of colors, embossed with the Peak House, refrigerator magnets, maps, postcards and “The History of Medfield” DVD will also be available.  Many bargains can be found at the White Elephant tables outside the house and under the tent.

3. Dedham Junior Woman's Club 30th Annual Craft Fair

Where/When: , 70 Whiting Ave., Dedham; Sat., Nov.19, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Over 80 crafters will be selling gourmet food products, floral arrangements, handcrafted clothing, handbags, jewelry, gift baskets, home decor items, holiday decorations and more.  Lunch will be available in the cafeteria. All proceeds will benefit local charities and organizations along with the Dedham Junior Woman's Club Scholarship Fund.

Pricing: $3.00, Children under 12 free.

4. The Medfield Community Singers Present "Music of America"

Where/When: , 496 Main Street (Route 109), Medfield; Sun., Nov. 13, 4 p.m.

Why Go: The Community Singers, will present their 23rd annual Fall Concert "Music of America" directed by David Giessow and accompanied by Vytas Baksys. This fall’s concert features several pieces by Lowell Mason to honor “the father of music education” and composer of over 1600 hymn tunes. The group will also be performing some selections from Randall Thompson’s The Testament of Freedom as well as several ever-popular spirituals, two selections from the musical Candide, and a medley of Broadway pieces by Rodgers and Hammerstein. And don’t miss the barbershop harmonies by our famous Close Shaves. The concert continues to be free, open to the public, and accessible to all.  The group supports itself with dues, donations, a raffle and a free-will offering taken during the concert.Unwind after a long work week by enjoying a night of music by the Crystal Joy Band.

5. Norwood High School Boosters 25th Running of the Turkey Trot

Where/When: 245 Nichols St, Norwood; Sun., Nov. 20, 11 a.m.

Why Go: The Norwood Boosters Club is celebrating its 25th Running of the Turkey Trot with a new location and a brand new 4 mile course.  The start/finish line will be located in front of the new school under the clock tower. Registration  begins at 9:00 a.m. for the 11:00 a.m. race time.  There will also be a free kids race at 10:30.  To register online go to www.coolrunning.com or pick up a form at the high school, civic center or contact Nora Glynn at noragym@norwoodlight.com.

Pricing: Registration fee is $25 (pre-registration ends Nov. 18) and $30 the day of the race.
