250 Turn Out for Sherborn Library Fundraiser

Sherborn Library kicks off its fundraising season with

More than 250 people booked their tickets for the Sherborn Library's fundraiser kick-off event a few weeks ago.

The event was held at the library on Sept. 14, in a tent where the proposed Children’s Room will sit. Trustees tell us that more than 250 people showed up to learn more about where the Sherborn Library is going.

Susan Meddaugh, a local children's book author, as the honorary campaign chairperson. Meddaugh is known for her work on the book and TV program "Martha Speaks."

Library Trustee Chair Stacey Brandon took a moment to thank the nearly 60 donors who participated in the "quiet phase" of the fundraising effort, according to a press release from the Library. She also encouraged Sherborn residents to support the Library project over the next two years.

In about 18 months, library officials anticipate a grant of up to $3.6 million for expansion and renovation plans of the 43-year-old building. After the state returns with the grant information, the town has six months to raise its share of the funds needed for the project--either through the town budget, or privately.

The Library already started raising funds during what Johnston refers to as the "quiet phase" of fundraising, which she says has been very successful over the last year.

September's event was, in part, "celebrating and acknowledging the quiet phase donors," Johnston told Patch previously.

Residents with questions will have a chance to learn more about the expansion plans at a series of public forums upcoming, according to a Library press release. The library will hold its first forum on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m.

[Edit: The headline previously indicated 205 people showed up, while the body said 250. The latter was correct, this has been updated. 9:30 a.m., Oct 1]
