Grab & Go Kids Planner: Time for Some Adventure

Adventures and laughter await this weekend. Head to the city for some family-friendly improv or explore the trials at Blue Hills in Milton.

  • Have a good laugh with your family at the ImprovBoston Family Show every Saturday night at 6 p.m. Don’t worry – its age appropriate with hilarity for adults and children alike. Located at Central Square, Cambridge, the unscripted show includes improvised singing, dancing, and comedic scenes that are guaranteed to have the whole family laughing out loud. Children who want to participate will have opportunities to be on stage and take part in the creative process. Call for more details. I’ve heard its best for kids ages 4 and up.
  • If you’re looking for some outdoor adventure this weekend the Blue Hills Trailside Museum (1904 Canton Avenue, Milton) can deliver. On Saturday and Sunday there are nature tales at 10:30 a.m., live animal presentations at noon and guided tours beginning at 1:30 p.m. Programs are subject to change, so consider calling first. (617) 333-0690. You can’t beat the prices either – just $3 to get in!
  • Take a break from the beach and get some creative juices flowing at The Kids Place Interactive Craft Studio (33 Highland Avenue, Needham). Its open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  The studio offers a wide range of creative choices. Ceramics (fired to be dishwasher, food, microwave safe), plaster, mining for gems, stuffing animals, sandy candy and more! They also have cotton candy and slush machines to add fun to your visit.
  • My kids and I have been in the audience for these awesome puppet shows many a time. You can’t beat the pure magic at the Puppet Showplace Theatre (32 Station Street, Brookline).  It’s one of the oldest continuously operating puppet theatres in the country and each Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 and 1 p.m. This weekend’s award winning production is Raccoon Tales by Brad Shur and tickets are only $10. The animals in the forest are always getting into trouble playing tricks on each other. Will they learn their lessons? Three humorous tales inspired by ... the Native American tales of the Seneca tribe: How the Fox and the Raccoon Trick Each Other; Why the Blue Jay is Blue and the Gray Wolf Isn’t; and, Why the Bear has a Stumpy Tail.
  • Pick some blueberries at Wards Berry Farm (615 South Main Street, Sharon. Their 7-acre planting of high-bush cultivated blueberries are ripening in the summer sunshine! Pick up to a bound of blueberries for just $3.
