Dover Experiences Second Morning of Brief Power Outages

NSTAR spokesman stated outages are part of repair

According to the Dover Police department there was another power outage in Dover this morning around 10 a.m.

Officer Steven Hagan said the power outage lasted for about 30 minutes and included Chickering Elementary School.

Dover-Sherborn Regional School District Superintendent Valerie Spriggs said of the outage, “The Chickering Elementary community responded favorably to the power outage yesterday.  Thanks to the administration and faculty all remained calm and focused on the children's safety. It is always a challenge when daily routines and plans are unexpectedly disrupted, especially in an elementary school”.

She reported that on Tuesday the children went ahead with a previously scheduled Kindergarten parade and then the students departed at 11 a.m.  She added that Wednesday’s outage gave “minimal disruption” to the school’s schedule.

NSTAR Spokesman Mike Durand said Chickering, “is on an electrical circuit that we are making additional repairs to”.   He added, “As we make those repairs, unfortunately we have to disconnect customers that have already been restored”.

Durand said he is not sure if another outage will occur, “We’re making what we believe will be final repairs on that circuit, we don’t anticipate additional outages”.

Durand said he’s not sure how much of Dover was affected by the disconnect.  When making the repairs the decision to disconnect is, “done then and there,” he noted.  The on the spot call to disconnect is also the reason why area residents and town authorities are not notified ahead of time. The areas affected by the outages vary depending on where the crews are working.

He added that as now, “No more outages are expected. If there is, it will be fairly brief.”

According the NSTAR website, 224 (10.3%) residents are without power in Dover.  In Sherborn 353 (20.3%) residents are without power.  Power should be restored fully by this evening.
