The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced today that EEE virus has been detected in mosquitoes collected in Sherborn. EEE is a rare but serious illness spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. While EEE can infect people of all ages, people under 15 years of age or over 50 years of age are at greatest risk for serious illness.

The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project will be spraying specific streets in town tonight.

The streets being sprayed tonight are: Apple, Bridle Path, Deerfield, Greenwood, Ivy, Lampligher, Old Orchard, Page Farm, Russett Hill, Surrey Lane, Thoroughbred, W. Goulding, Washington (partial), Woodland & Wood.

By taking a few, common-sense precautions, people can help protect themselves and their loved ones. Visit the Sherborn Website at www.sherbornma.org for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Fact Sheet on Eastern Equine Encephalitis, which provides information on EEE and how to protect yourself.
