Grab & Go Kids Planner

Family fun doesn't have to be reserved for the weekend. One of Boston's best events is going to be in town the middle of next week. If you like ice-cream (lots of it) you have to know the details. Read on.

  • If you’re thinking of camp for your child this summer then I’d definitely take advantage of the free preview day being offered by Thundercat Sports on Friday, June 3 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. at Chickering School Field (Dedham Street, Dover) The preview day is open to 7-12 year old Dover residents and Thundercat coaching staff will be on hand to play camp games, soccer, basketball, and more! To register for this event call the Dover Parks and Recreation department at 508-785-or download the registration form from www.doverrec.com.
  • Go see some of your children’s favorite trucks and animals and make a difference in the lives of children in need at the same time! The Wellesley Mother’s Forum is hosting a truck event on Saturday, June 4 from 9:30 to 12:30 at 50 Oakland Street, Wellesley. Last year's favorites were the Hummer limousine, RV fit for a rock star, Natick Bookmobile, and a mini excavator that children could operate. This year, they’ve added the Rocky Acres Farm petting zoo with over twenty different animals for children to pet, hold, and feed.  All of the money raised at the event will go to the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, a non-profit organization focused on brightening the lives of children and families in crisis. The entrance fee is $5 per child—no charge for infants or adults (although additional donations are always welcome).
  • The Carter Memorial Methodist Church (800 Highland Avenue, Needham) is hosting a free family game night on Saturday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. From Candy Land to Pit, there will be game choices for every age group. They ask that you bring a snack to share and they’ll provide the beverages.
  • Be prepared to be amazed. The Dover-Sherborn High School AFS club will host an evening full of magic, music and comedy on Saturday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. (9 Junction Street, Dover). The show will feature young talent from the Society of Young Magicians! Tickets are $10-12 and can be purchased here http://www.ticketstage.com.
  • Are you ready for some ice-cream? Picture this: All your favorite ice-cream makers in one place. Ben & Jerry’s, Baskin Robins, Edy’s and Friendly’s to name a few. You pay an entrance fee to support the Jimmy Fund and then get to dine on as many flavors as you want. My kids thought they died and went to heaven when we did this a few years back. The 29th annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl will be held June 7 -9 at the Boston City Hall Plaza from noon to 8 p.m. every day. Since its inception in 1983 this event has raised more than $2.9 million for cancer research and care.
