Grossman Camp Officials Say Loss Of Building Will Not Affect Camp

Grossman Camp is planning to use a temporary facility over the summer and are in discussions about rebuilding.

After a at the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston Grossman Camp on the Dover/Westwood line Wednesday, camp officials said today they are looking at rebuilding and that camp operations would not be affected by the loss of the building.

“It is a facility that houses bunks, basically units for the kids,” said Carol Trager, vice president of marketing for the camp. “We're going to look at rebuilding it.”

However, Trager said that with the camp opening next month they are currently looking at more temporary options.

“Our plan is to use a temporary facility over the summer like a tent or something like that,” Trager said.

She said that the loss of the building would not affect the operations of the camp and that despite the fire the camp is still safe. “Absolutely, we would never consider opening the camp if we thought it would be unsafe,” Trager said.

They are in the process of determining the value of the building at this time. Trager said there was nothing of significant value that was lost in the blaze.

"There were minor things inside the building," Trager said. “There was some balls, bats, and camping equipment in it that will need to be replaced.”

She said they had not heard any further information about what may have caused the fire and that right now crews are working on getting the debris cleaned up.

Trager said that to her knowledge nothing like the fire has happened at the camp in the past.
