Hundreds Gather in Support of Kyle Brockway

Kyle will be undergoing surgery today at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

Hundreds of people filled the pews of the in Dover early Wednesday morning to show their support and to pray for Kyle Brockway who will be undergoing surgery today.

Brockway fell from the Dartmouth Street footbridge overpass onto Storrow Drive in Boston early Sunday morning and as of Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. was in serious condition at Tufts Medical Center.

“When we want to help in a situation and are struggling for answers, as people of faith, we know that often the most powerful thing we can do is offer our prayers,” said Regina O'Connor, youth minister at the church. “Today we gather to join all of our hearts and voices in this Mass for Kyle’s healing and the care of his family and friends and the medical staff at Tufts.”

Throughout the Mass, church members read passages from the Bible and the hundreds of people in attendance sang hymns.

“Pray for hope. Hope for his family and hope for our friend, our student, our brother, Kyle. We know that today he will be having his surgery. We pray for the success of his surgery, we pray for the medical team and also we pray for his family,” said Father Michel Boyongo.

Student and friend Carly Furbush addressed the congregation and asked his family and friends for support, “We pray for Kyle, for a successful surgery and for the strength and the fortitude he needs to make a full recovery ... For the Brockway family, Kathy, Peter, Kevin, Krista, Keith that they will feel the healing presence of Christ and find the strength they need from the local support from all of us around them ... For the surgeons who are operating on Kyle, for precision, wisdom and steady hands.”

After the ceremony several students stayed behind hugging and consoling one another.
