Letter: Schools Reply To Emergency Medical Response Deadline

Recently, Patch reported that local school systems were among the 125 schools that did not meet the deadline for submitting an emergency response plan before the Sept. 1 deadline. Here is a response from the Dover-Sherborn school system. 

In response to the recent article appearing in the Dover-Sherborn Patch concerning the reported delinquent status of the Dover-Sherborn Schools' Emergency Medical Response Plans, we wish to offer this correction.

The Superintendent of Schools recently worked with the clinical team at the schools in producing an Emergency Medical Response Plan for the school system.  

The DESE did not regularly communicate information about the Emergency Medical Response Plan regulations to appropriate district personnel in recent months, and when we were informed that the deadline was missed, the Superintendent consulted the clinical team for the DS Public Schools.  It was confirmed that the Plan was in development, and it was subsequently finalized and sent to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education about four weeks ago.  The Department may not have updated its own records at the time that the list of delinquent districts was released.
