National Weather Service Warns of Hurricane Irene

Hurricane may impact Dover and Sherborn over the weekend.

Hurricane Irene, a major Category 3 storm with sustained winds of 115 mph as of Wednesday morning, is taking a path toward southern New England, the National Weather Service is predicting.

The NWS says Irene's track remains uncertain, but the possibility of heavy rain, flooding and strong, damaging wind exists for the weekend for the Dover-Sherborn area.

Meteorologists at WHDH say humidity levels will also be high on Sunday.

MSNBC predicts Irene to be a Catergory 1 hurricane, with sustained winds of 80 mph, when it makes landfall in southern New England early Monday morning.

Severe weather will also be possible Thursday ahead of Irene.

The NWS says isolated strong to severe thunderstorms may affect the area, with localized flooding possible.
