Severe Weather Warnings In Place For Dover And Sherborn, Most Of The State

National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for Massachusetts from 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. today.

The National Weather Service has upgraded a Tornado Watch that was issued Wednesday afternoon to a Tornado Warning for parts of Norfolk and Middlesex Counties. 

Dover and Sherborn and much of the surrounding area is under a severe thunderstorm warning until 5:45 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS issued a tornado warning and then a tornado watch earlier today for the area until 8:00 p.m. Around 4:00 p.m. reports were confirmed of a tornado touching down in the western part of Massachusetts, tearing across the Connecticut River and doing damage to the downtown Springfield area.

In Eastern Mass., the tornado watch remain in effect until 8:00 p.m. this evening. Thunderstorms may include serious rain and hail as well as severe winds that could gust as high as 28 mph.

"If a tornado is spotted act quickly and move to a place of safety in a sturdy structure such as a basement or small interior room," said the NWS office in Taunton.
