State Police Bomb Squad Called Into Sherborn Friday Night For Grenade Scare
The State Police Bomb Squad determined that the grenade, found in a home on Stoney Brook Road in Sherborn Friday night, was inert and posed no threat.
Multiple homes on Stoney Brook Road in Sherborn were evacuated Friday night by local authorities after a resident found what was believed to be a live grenade in a box in his home.
“We got a call that the resident believed there was a live grenade in the house,” said Sherborn Police Sergeant Luke Tedstone. “So what we did is we got them out of the house. We checked with the residents that were surrounding, we got the neighbors out of there and we called in the fire department to help us secure the area."
The State Police Bomb Squad was called in to examine the grenade and determined that it was inert and posed no threat.

Parts of Stoney Brook Road were blocked off while authorities investigated.
“It was just certain areas of the street. A grenade isn't going to take out a whole street so we just wanted the neighbors immediately adjacent to not have any safety issues," Tedstone said.

After it was determined that the grenade was no threat, authorities explained what happened to the residents and they were allowed back in their homes.
“It’s one of those collectable ones but he didn’t really know,” said Tedstone. “But it looked real. It was an authentic-looking military grenade that was made safe a long time ago and inert.”
The resident had been looking through boxes that were being moved that belonged to relative and called the police around 6:00 p.m. Friday night, according to Tedstone.
