5. The 20th Annual Red Sox Wives Can & Cash Drive

Where/When: 4 Yawkey Way, Boston, Fenway Park; Friday, Aug. 5, 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Why Go:  For two days this August, the Red Sox Wives take over Fenway Park to collect donations for The Greater Boston Food Bank, the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and one of the largest food banks in the country. During the 20th Annual Red Sox Wives Can & Cash Drive, the Wives distribute autographed photos of Red Sox players in exchange for 10 non-perishable food items or a $10 donation.

Since The Food Bank and the Wives will be stationed outside the gates, fans do not need a ticket to the game to participate in the fundraiser. Over the last 20 years, the Can & Cash Drive has raised approximately $222,000 in cash donations and collected more than 155,550 pounds of food.

In 2010, Red Sox fans donated 1,685 pounds of food and $13,278 in donations in just two days. The amount of food and money raised last year provided 34,810 meals, nearly enough to feed everyone inside Fenway Park.
