Weekend Planner: Sept. 23-25

Civil War celebration, Music Man and Fall Festival on the calendar this weekend.

The weekend is just around the corner. If the only plans you have are not to stay home because lounging on the couch and watching TV just don’t cut it anymore, then don't worry, Patch is here to assist you! Check out our list of suggestions of events to attend, places to go, sites to see – all within driving distance of home. 

1. Walking Tour: Vine Lake Cemetery

Where/When: Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield; Saturday, Sept. 24, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: Join the Vine Lake Preservation Trust for a walking tour to honor Civil War veterans buried at the cemetery and enjoy a reenactment color guard and musicians from Massachusetts 28th Volunteer Infantry Regiment to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. It is a rain or shine event and will begin at the old section of the cemetery at the lower entrance on Main Street.

Pricing: $5 admission; Children under 18 years old are free.

2. Friends of Medfield Public Library Book Sale

When/Where: Medfield Public Library, Medfield; Friday, Sept. 23-Saturday, Sept. 24, 10:30 a.m.

Why Go: Thanks to the many generous book donations from Medfield residents, the upcoming library book sale is stocked with bargains and treasures alike. Friday's book sale (Sept. 23) begins at 10:30 a.m. and is open to all. Saturday (Sept. 24), you can fill one of the library’s bags with books for only $5 per bag. Doors open at 10:30. Funds raised support materials (such as children's books), equipment (including the two self-checkout stations) and programs (like concerts and author talks) at the library.

Pricing: Free admission.

3. Zullo Gallery Holds Reception for Art Exhibit: 17th Annual Juried Exhibition

Where/When: , 456 Main St., Medfield; Saturday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m.

Why Go: Zullo Gallery, Center For the Arts, will hold a reception for its new art exhibit entitled: "The 17th Annual Juried Exhibition."

Pricing: Free.

4. Powisset Fall Festival

 Where/When: 37 Powisset St, Dover; Sunday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m.

Why Go: The Trustees of Reservations will host its annual Fall Festival at Powisset Farm Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Celebrate the arrival of fall by listening to great live music, paint a gourd, take a farm tour, and ride on the special bicycle powered cider press. “The Dog House” will be selling hot food and drinks and the farm stand will be open with a variety of fresh produce available.

Pricing: Free.

5. The Music Man

Where/When: , 275 Prospect St, Norwood; Friday, Sept. 23, 7 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 25, 2 p.m.

Why Go: Presented by the Norwood High School Fine Arts Department. Please call (781) 769-5021 for additional information.

Pricing: $12 for adults; $10 for seniors and students.
