Dover Historical Society Sponsors Lecture On “Christmas in New England”

Part of the presentation will explain how Christmas was transformed from a rowdy celebration to a family centered event.

Kenneth Turino will speak on "Christmas in New England" with illustrations and descriptions of the years 1770-1900 on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dover Town Library. The program is sponsored by the Dover Historical Society.

Turino will trace the celebration of Christmas from the time it was outlawed in seventeenth century New England through the beginning of the twentieth century when all the trappings of a traditional Christmas were in place.
