Make a craft: Here’s a noisemaker that your children can make and you can take. Cover one end of an empty paper towel roll with duct tape (leave the other end open). Use red and blue duct tape to cover the roll. Pour a handful of uncooked beans into the roll and tape the other end closed. Use star stickers for a finishing touch. Shake away!
Make a desert: This red, white and blue dish is both patriotic and delicious. Bake or buy an angel food cake. Using a truffle bowl (or any glass bowl), you and your child can layer it in the following order: Pieces of angel food cake, a layer of whipped cream topped with strawberries and blueberries. Repeat. Kids can help wash and prepare the fruit and will definitely like layering it up. Mine did!
Decorate a bike: Break out some red, white and blue streamers and let your kids wrap and twirl their bikes into parade-ready transportation. They’ll love riding around the neighborhood and showing off their American pride!
Play a game: What team can successfully pass a red, white and blue balloon down the line first (using only their legs!)? Or fill up the balloons for a game of long-distance catch. What partners can pass the balloon the farthest without an explosion? For another great July Fourth-themed relay race, check out Family Fun.
