Poll: Favorite D-S High School Winter Sport

From basketball to hockey, the D-S High School winter sports seasons kick off on Friday.

After successful fall seasons for several of the  athletic programs, student athletes are preparing for the start of the 2011-2012 winter sports seasons, which officially opens Friday, Dec. 9, with the swim team on the road against Hopkinton.

Teams have been practicing for a little over a week and playing in pre-season scrimmages to prepare for opening night. In advance of the winter season, we want to know what you're looking forward to most this winter at D-S.

So, we want to know ...

What is your favorite D-S High School winter sport?

Swimming? Really??

All good but I'm biased to get outdoors. Downhill skiing is a popular family sport that carries over to school sports. Nordic is that and more considering the great trail network in our region and the Weston Ski track is close.

Really! Swimmers are dedicated to their sport and receive little recognition from the public and are usually on the short end of the stick when it comes to budgeting for sports. D-S has turned out many good swimmers who continue on to swim in Division 1, 2, and 3 colleges.

Yes, Beefstick, swimming. How about a little team spirit for a sport that receives very little recognition--- and has a devoted group of participants who spend as much time daily perfecting their talent as anyone else on a soccer or baseball or football field?? As I recall, it is an Olympic summer sport, correct ?? Just because it isn't "in your face" at D/S as much as other sports does not mean that it doesn't warrant some serious support. (You would do well to keep your snide comments to yourself, if you have nothing positive to say.....)
