2 Displaced After 2-Alarm Fire on Walpole Street in Dover

No one was home at the time of the fire, according to authorities.

Over 30 firefighters from Dover and surrounding towns battled a 2-alarm house fire on Walpole Street in Dover this afternoon.

The elderly couple were not in their two-story home at 33 Walpole St. at the time of the fire, according to authorities, and there were no injuries reported.

Dover Fire Chief John Hughes said the couple would be displaced and that the house is almost a total loss.

“Yes, for the most part it is. But you’ve got several rooms that are still in tact that just have heat and smoke damage,” said Hughes.

Emergency responders from Westwood, Medfield, Needham, Sherborn, Walpole, Millis and Natick all responded to the second alarm.

Around 11 a.m. Hughes said that a neighbor called to report that they smelled smoke. When authorities got to the house it was already a working fire.

“We had maybe one-third, maybe two-thirds of the rear end of the house was totally involved. The fire had vented itself already when we got here,” said Hughes. “The place of origin appears to be in the kitchen area. We can’t confirm that yet.”

According to Hughes, no foul play is suspected.
