Sherborn Man Faces Reckless Driving Charge After Crash in NH

New Hampshire State Police: Children were injured in the accident.

An SUV crashed into an Everett Turnpike tollbooth in Bedford, NH, on Sunday afternoon, sending a number of children to the hospital while the driver has been cited.

David Sullivan, 52, of Sherborn, was charged with reckless driving and is due in court in April.

According to a press statement from state police, troopers, as well as local police and fire and rescue teams were called to the southbound side of the tollbooth for a report of a rollover around 5:45 p.m.

The SUV, according to the report, crashed into the EZ Pass lane, rolled over, and caught fire.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that a male driver was traveling south on the F.E. Everett Turnpike approaching the #5 EZ Pass Toll Booth when for an unknown reason he drove straight into the concrete structure that divides lanes,” according to Trooper Sgt. Bryan M. Trask. “After the vehicle struck the concrete structure it continued to travel through the Toll Booth striking a second concrete structure.  As the vehicle cleared the Toll Booth it rolled over and landed on its passenger side. Upon coming to rest, the vehicle started to catch on fire.”

Several bystanders assisted in pulling the occupants, including six children between the ages of 10 and 16, out of the vehicle and putting out the fire, according to police.

Sullivan and three children were transported to the Elliot Hospital in Manchester as a precaution, according to Trask. Three other children were transported to the CMC Hospital in Manchester also as a precaution.

All occupants were transported as a precaution and sustained very minor if any injuries, the trooper noted.
