Sherborn Police Log: Make Way for Chickens

The following information was provided by the Sherborn Police Department. When arrests are mentioned it does not mean there have been convictions.

Wednesday, September 26

Animal Complaint (7:24 a.m.) - Police received a call from highway personnel stating that there was a bird in the road on Maple St.

Chickens in the Road (11:47 a.m.) - A caller near the intersection of Farm Rd. and Forest St. reported that there were several chickens on the side of the roadway, but this had been about 15-20 minutes prior to the call.

Horsing Around (5:51 p.m.) - A caller reports that there are two horses running around loose near Huntington Ln. and Brush Hill Rd. The horses were located and returned to their residence.

Today's news gave me pause. It is evidence of our semi-rural community. I hope these observations continue for decades to come. As a member of the Planning Board I am particularly interested in insuring there are horses and chickens in Sherborn and should they get a bit too far out and about, we, the community, like Michael the Policeman in McCloskey's story, help their safe passage. I'm not sure they all need to be called in to our police department but it is nice to note we have birds, horses and chickens about. Mr. Rosen's reference to "Make Way For Ducklings" is a nice tip of the hat to our Police and sense of community.
