Woman Charged with Allegedly Kicking Sherborn Police Officer in Face During Arrest

The woman appeared to be intoxicated during the time of her arrest, according to Sherborn PD.

A Natick woman is facing a number of charges - including alleged assault and battery on a police officer with a dangerous weapon - after officers responded to a domestic dispute at the corner of South Main Street and Goulding Street East on Thursday, March 15.

Christine Anne Mercurio, 29, of 15 Parker Court, Natick, Mass. was being placed into a police cruiser when she allegedly kicked Officer Marc Scola in the face while resisting arrest.

Police received a call at about 10:58 p.m. for what sounded like people arguing on the side of the roadway, according to Sherborn PD.

When officers arrived they observed Mercurio allegedly punch her husband in the face as the two had been arguing and was arrested, Sherborn Police Sergeant David Bento said.

“They had been driving down the street together and apparently they had had some kind of an altercation inside the vehicle. So they stopped the vehicle and then exited and then they were both out of the vehicle when we arrived,” Bento said. “She punched him in the face right as we were exiting our cars.”

Once inside the cruiser Mercurio began kicking the inside of the door.

"It was minimal. There were some markings on the inside of the door. We’re not sure if there’s going to be anything more,” Bento said. “When she was kicking the inside of the glass she was moving the whole door frame out a good inch to two inches.”

Bento said that the woman appeared to be intoxicated during the time of her arrest.

Because she allegedly kicked Officer Scola while wearing her shoe, she was charged with assault and battery on a police officer with a dangerous weapon.

“We charge it when it’s a shoe on a foot but it’s not like it was a knife or a gun or something like that, thank God,” Bento said.

Officer Scola was "fine," according to Bento, "He just had a little red mark on the face from the kick.”

Mercurio complained of pain to her thumb from a previous injury and an ambulance was called, according to police.

Mercurio was charged with alleged assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer with a dangerous weapon, to wit, a shod foot and malicious or wanton damage or defacement.

According to Bento, the husband does not face any charges.

“Based on what we saw she was creating most of the disturbance and she assaulted him in our presence. So that was why she got arrested,” he said.
