Sherborn saw a low voter turnout for their 2012 annual town election Tuesday.
Only 614 out of 2907 voters (21%) turned out. The turnout was one of the lowest in Sherborn history according to Sherborn Town Clerk Carole Marple. The lowest, "in the last 100 years" was a 12% turnout in 2009 with 360 votes cast, according to Marple. Last year 1287 voters (44%) came to the polls.
The only contested race of the election was for the Sherborn School Committee. Susan Hanlon gathered 376 votes while Greg Garland had 365 votes to take the two available seats on the board. The odd man out was Bruce Lazarus who had 175 votes.
There were seven ballot questions, all of which received a 'Yes' vote with the exception of Question #4, which received 334 votes for 'No' and 249 votes for 'Yes'. Question #4 was read as follows: "Shall the town of Sherborn be allowed to exempt from the provisions of proposition two and one-half, so-called, the amounts required to pay for the bond issued in order to reconstruct and pave the roadway inside the transfer station?"
The Sherborn Board of Selectmen seat left vacant by George Pucci was filled by Peter Caruso, who ran uncontested, and had 454 votes. for Caruso's reaction to being voted to the Board of Selectmen.
