Milford Selectmen: No More Double Poles

Milford Selectmen say they are tired of utility companies failing to remove old, shattered poles.

Held together by two-by-fours and braced in various ways, splintered utilty poles are becoming an eyesore, Milford Selectmen said this week.

At the request of Town Hall, the Fire Department administration will contact National Grid and try to determine when the old poles — which still carry utility lines — will come down.

In many areas of Milford, old poles are braced to newer poles, and both of them carry utility lines for various companies.

Selectman Bill Buckley said some old poles are interfering with lines of sight for drivers, and all are contributing to "blight" in Milford. In some cases, the poles have been in place for years, Buckley said.

"What it looks like is negligence," he said.

The poles are not only eyesores but they look downright dangerous. Kids walk by there everyday to get to school. One of them poles looks like it's going to snap anytime. Having boards holding them together ridiculous.

I agree with them. Get rid of the old broken poles.

Glad to see this being brought up to them to fix. I thought the same thing when recently a pole near my neighborhood was hit by a car and this was done to "fix" it.

This should have been done when the truck was there repairing it the first time.

I have on right at the end of my driveway. All the wiring for both national grid and Verizon are on the old, broken piece of a poll that is "McGyvered" to a good poll. Everytime we have a storm or someone hits the poll, we lose cable and power. Its horrible!
