Public Forum To Be Held on Forestry and Land Management in Sherborn

The forum will include a presentation and discussion to look at managing Sherborn's conservation land and open space beginning with the Barber Reservation and Hidden Meadow.

A coalition of groups have come together to host a Public Forum on Forestry Stewardship Planning in Sherborn Monday, April 30, at 7:00 p.m. at the Sherborn Town Hall. 

The public is invited to a presentation and discussion to look at managing Sherborn's conservation land and open space beginning with the Barber Reservation and Hidden Meadow.

Some of the discussion topics include:

· How do our residents use and want to use these properties?

· Should we do more field mowing/maintenance and how do we pay for it?

· Should we start doing timber management, more trail and fire road maintenance, invasive species removal, vista pruning, habitat protection and other new work?  If so, how do we do it?  How do we cover any costs?

The Upper Charles Conservation Land Trust, Sherborn Conservation Commission, Sherborn Rural Land Foundation and Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation sponsored a forest survey and plan of some key conservation land in Sherborn.

The Sherborn Forest and Trails Association and the Sherborn Town Forest Committee are joining with these groups to host this public forum to discuss what has been done, ideas for these properties and ideas for a comprehensive, town-wide approach to management of the open spaces in Sherborn.
