Sherborn Annual Town Meeting Begins Tuesday Night

Voters will vote on a meal tax increase.

With the first day of Town Meeting Tuesday night, here are some articles that will be discussed in the coming days.

Article 3 

Article 3 will have residents vote on whether to approve a local meals tax of .75-percent. If approved, many Sherborn business will have to begin to collect this tax. The Department of Revenue estimates that Sherborn would receive $30,000-$35,000 annually from the tax, according to the Sherborn Advisory Committee.

Article 11

Article 11 will be for the town to vote on whether to authorize the Dover-Sherborn Regional School Committee to borrow funds to go toward funding the replacement of the wastewater treatment plant at the regional school campus. The Department of Environmental Protection has deemed the plant non-compliant and ordered that the facility be replaced.

Article 12

This article will be for residents to vote on whether to approve the preliminary design plans for the expansion and renovation of the Sherborn Library. The design plans are contingent upon the receipt of a state grant. The library has submitted a grant proposal to the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners that could pay for up to 50-percent  of the construction costs of the $6.5 million project.

Article 34

This article is a citizens' petition to the Sherborn Board of Selectmen to have the Massachusetts Department of Revenue do a study on how the town operates in order to evaluate how the town is run financially.
