Sherborn Selectmen Create Committees To Find New Town Administrator And To Review Town's Finances

The Sherborn Board of Selectmen discussed ways to review the town's finances at last Thursday's meeting.

The Sherborn Board of Selectmen stayed late into the night at their meeting last Thursday, discussing a committee to review the town’s finances and the process of finding a new Town Administrator.

The selectmen voted to create a committee that would analyze the structure and finances of the town.

Sherborn Board of Selectmen chair Paul DeRensis said the forming of the committee is in response to many residents having concerns about the how the town is run financially.

DeRensis said it is the advisement of Sherborn Tax Collector Nancy Hess that a state Department of Revenue study, which was asked for by the ad hoc committee Save Our Sherborn, would be too “cookie cutter” and that they find the results on their own.

Hess said she is worried that it would affect the town’s AAA bond rating. She said she is looking for something “meaningful.”

Selectmen Tom Twining added that he has been in touch with UMass Boston administration and may be able to get free advice from the Colin School for Public Administration and Management. He said they “provide advice for ethical and cost effective government.”

The selectmen have not yet named anyone to the committee. They are currently looking for qualified individuals who are interested.

In regard to finding a new Town Administrator, DeRensis said in an email that he and Twining have been taking on the duties of Town Administrator since former TA Dan Keyes left.

Currently no one has officially applied for the position, although some have called to inquire, DeRensis said in an email.

The selectmen voted to approve the description of the Town Administrator job posting, and voted to form a search committee for finding a new TA.
