Should Roadrunner be the Official Rock Song of Massachusetts? [VIDEO]

A Dorchester state representative has filed a bill to make Roadrunner, first recorded by Modern Lovers in the '70s, as the official rock song of the Commonwealth. Do you agree?

A Dorchester state representative has filed a bill to make Roadrunner, first recorded by Modern Lovers in the '70s, as the official rock song of the Commonwealth.

State Rep. Martin “Marty” Walsh filed a bill last week to make Roadrunner the official rock song of Massachusetts, reported Boston.com.

Natick native Jonathan Richman wrote the song Roadrunner, which is about driving at night along Route 128.

Walsh, told Boston.com, he was prompted to file the bill via a petition from Joyce Linehan, a mover and shaker in his local community through her work as an arts publicist and on political campaigns.

Massachusetts already has a state folk song (Arlo Guthrie’s “Massachusetts”) and polka (“Say Hello to Someone From Massachusetts”); but with homegrown rock bands like Aerosmith, Boston, the J. Geils Band and the Dropkick Murphys, should Roadrunner be the state's rock song?

Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

"The Warriors Code" is better, but my final choice is Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative" (a song not driven by electric guitar, but with a nice grip of whatever jazz-originating wind instrument it is).

UGH! Can't understand what they are singing. Sounds like morons on drugs.

Please please please do not use that song when you have such a great selection of Boston bands that are 100x better, Aerosmith, J Geils, Billy Squire, just to name a few. Let the people of Mass choose what our song will be. Kim Morency, Stoughton,Ma

I have been a fan of his since college. and saw him in Jacksonville and LOVE this song, so I'm happy they reached back to the 70s to single it out. It is sort of obscure compared to others from bands that are based here, but I'm guessing the words are what got it nominated: "Route 128 when its dark outside..." google it, and it'll make sense..

I think there are better and more important things to be done in our political offices than take time with a state song.
