Superintendent Spriggs: School Opening CANCELLED For Tomorrow

Due to safety concerns from Hurricane Irene D-S Superintendent Valerie Spriggs cancelled the opening of school tomorrow.

Dover-Sherborn Schools Superintendent Valerie Spriggs has announced that D-S Public Schools will be closed tomorrow due to safety concerns.

"The opening has been canceled for tomorrow due to additional information forwarded to me from Sherborn. As hard as everyone worked, we could not be sure all children could get to their bus stops and to school safely, which was the determining factor in making my decision," Spriggs said in an email today.

Crews in Sherborn are working to repair downed power lines and clear debris from the roads, which may not have been completed in time for school to begin tomorrow, Aug. 31.

Earlier today, school and town officials in Dover were working feverishly with NSTAR to try and , which was lost during Hurricane Irene.

Power at Chickering was restored today but upon hearing about the conditions of the roads Spriggs felt that postponing the first day of school was necessary to ensure the safety of students, parents and faculty.
