D-S Boys Lacrosse Moves On To Championship Game At Harvard Stadium After Thumping North Reading

The Raiders were dominant in a win over North Reading Saturday with a final score of 19-6.

Last year the Raiders lost out on a trip to Harvard Stadium to play in the Division 3 East final after falling to Cohasset in heartbreaking fashion in the semi-final game. This season D-S was able to punch their ticket to the championship game after a dominating win over North Reading Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Led by sensational play from junior Jared Spence, D-S took a 13-3 lead into halftime. Spence scored five goals in the game and chipped in on three assists.

“We got out early with some nice transition goals,” said D-S head coach Brian McLaughlin. “It was good at the beginning of the game to get some easy ones there.”

Once again the superb ball handling and passing of the Raiders helped keep them on the offensive.

“I think our passing was crisp today. So that was good. It’s always nice to keep the ball moving hot and get some easy goals. We weren’t carrying it for too long and were keeping it moving,” McLaughlin said.

For North Reading is was only the third time they fell all season.

“We had a great year. This is only our third loss of the season,"said North Reading head coach Chuck Campobasso. "But at the end of the day I think what caught up to us was our lack of depth.”

Earlier this week North Reading lost some players to injury and suspension.

“We had some injuries and we didn’t have the people to replace those injuries,” Campobasso said.

P.J. Copponi scored five goals for D-S. Billy Polk added three goals and Ben Newbert scored twice and had three assists for the Raiders.

For North Reading, Cody Carbone led the Hornets with three goals and three assists.

D-S will now take on Weston in the final on Tuesday at Harvard Stadium at 3:30 p.m.

“Yeah, off to Harvard to play Weston. They’re a good team, well-coached, so we’ll see what happens on Tuesday,” McLaughlin said. “It’s nice to get back.”
