D-S Boys Lacrosse Win Home Opener Over Hopkinton

The Raiders won, 10-2, on three goals and two assists from junior captain Billy Polk.

The D-S boys varsity lacrosse team won their first home game of the season in a, 10-2, blowout of Hopkinton High School.

The Raiders stayed on the offensive for most of the game and goalie Jeff Williams made some great saves in the second half.

“Turnovers really hurt us. The fundamentals really hurt us and that’s going to happen,” said Hopkinton head coach Justin O'Leary. “We weren’t clicking offensively, we were making poor decisions."

“We were moving the ball pretty well, especially in the second half,” said Raiders head coach Brian McLaughlin.

The Raiders were up 4-2 at halftime and added six more goals in the second half.

“I think in the first half we were kind of not finishing shots and not passing as quickly as we should have. The second half we just started slinging it around and moving the ball a little faster. We caught them off guard a little bit there,” McLaughlin.

“When you’re on defense most of the time they’re going to get their opportunities,” O'Leary said.

D-S captain Billy Polk led the way with 3 goals and two assists on the day.

Ben Newbert had two goals and two assists for the Raiders and Robert Simms added two goals as well.

Hopkinton’s Will Ballantyne and Jonathan Lee scored the two goals for the Hillers.
