D-S Boys Soccer Still Unbeaten With Win Over Norton

The Raiders are now 10-0-1 on the season.

It was only a matter of time before D-S got a goal against the Norton Lancers.

Pressuring the Lancers for most of the game, the Raiders knew that taking their foot off the accelerator at any moment could lead to a Lancer’s advantage.

“We always have battles with these guys," said Raiders coach Joe Gruseck. "They’re blue collar. They’re gonna play hard and we gotta be ready to play them.”

Playing hard and controlling the ball in the first half, the Raiders got the first goal of the game after a drag back pass from Sam Hunter to Perry Fitz to the left for a back post goal in the 65th minute.

“Just a nice job tucking it in back post,” Gruseck said.

Despite a few opportunities, the Lancers could not find the back of the net. Raider Sam Jordan was able to get the ball to Hunter inside the keeper’s box in the 76th minute to put the game away with a final goal.

What at times looked like a chance for the Lancers to pull of an upset was quickly put away with the two goals. Sam Fleck led the way with a goal and an assist. Jordan had an assist and Fitz had a goal.

With the, 2-0, win the Raiders remain unbeaten and at the top of the Tri-Valley League standings at 10-0-1 with 21 points while the Lancers are 3-4-3 with 9 points.

The Raiders will once again put their unbeaten record on the line again on Thursday at Medfield. Match time is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
