Lady Raiders Lacrosse Stumbles In Night Game To Medfield

D-S loses 16-7 on Friday night against the Medfield Warriors.

The D-S Lady Raiders varsity lacrosse team played under the lights in a Friday night game, losing to rival Medfield 16-7 at home.

The game was relatively close at the half with D-S down 7-3 heading into the second half. Medfield then began the half scoring four straight goals in under three minutes without letting D-S have possession of the ball in that stretch.

“They had a lot of quick ball movement and it was taking us longer to recover from that than we were in the first half,” said D-S head coach Erin Newton.

“In those four goals, our communication was down, our slides were down, but, in their defense, we were trying a lot of different things on defense to see which combination would work the best and be the most efficient,” said Newton.

Seemingly every time D-S had possession of the ball the Warriors were double and triple teaming the Lady Raiders, forcing turnovers and not allowing D-S to get off clean passes to their teammates.

“We needed to find the open player quicker than we were finding her. We needed to be able to see the whole field, I think, more than we were. We really [had] tunnel vision on our player and on the ball as opposed to seeing the whole field,” Newton said.

“We’ve been working on that, especially in transition. We make sure that everybody is involved in the transition defense, we don’t let any stand back and watch. Even our lowest attack player will be involved in the defense,” said Medfield head coach Jason Heim.

Medfield goalie Sarah Honan kept D-S from making a comeback in the second half with several key saves.

“She’s stone cold in there and she’s intimidating too, she’s got that presence in net and one good save like that, it can be a game changer in a lacrosse game,” Heim said. "They had a good five or six shots where if they went in it would have been a one goal game.”

Ashley Stewart scored four goals for Dover-Sherborn in the game.

Medfield's Katie Ott scored a whopping eight goals in the game, leading all scorers.

The Lady Raiders are now 6-3 on the season.
