This was Dover-Sherborn’s first match of the season, and second.
“Let’s just get this out of the way,” Norton head coach Cortney Greene said of D-S Wednesday, during a match against Foxborough, which Norton won, 4-1. According to their team letter of introduction, D-S has come off of 11 consecutive trips to the state tournament, five straight TVL Championships and a 17-3 season last year, with their final loss coming to Cape Cod Academy in the Division 3 South Championship match.

“We’re young,” Baroody said. “We’ve only got one senior and he’s injured. He’s not playing for the next month.” But that didn’t stop D-S from running the courts, and teammates sitting on the sidelines cheering them on.
“[We are doing] pretty good,” said D-S player Brandon Wu.

In the first singles match, Christian Baker of D-S defeated PJ Levesque 6-1 and 6-3. Harry Stone beat Norton’s Matt Sugar 6-0 and 6-1 in the second singles match. Dover-Sherborn’s Stefano Barbier dominated Paul Southworth 6-0 and 6-0. In the first doubles match, the D-S team of Mike Shaner and Russ Daly defeated Rob Southworth and Drew Burke 6-2 and 6-2. Lastly, Roberto Barbier and Alex Adamczyk overcame Kolin Campbell and Brian Ahern, 6-0, 6-1.
“They are talented kids,” Baroody said of his D-S team.
It wasn’t all bad news for the Lancers, though.
“PJ Levesque played really well against a very talented player,” Greene said. “Matt Sugar also played well, especially towards the end. He had some really long rallies with his opponent.”
Norton is now 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the TVL. They will play away at Hopkinton Monday, 3:45 p.m. Dover Sherborn is now 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the TVL. They will take on Medfield in a home match Tuesday, 3:45 p.m.
