D-S Students to Walk in 'March for Babies'

The March for Babies raises money for research for children who are born prematurely.

On Saturday, May 12, a team of Dover-Sherborn students called the Dover Sherborn Strollers will be led by Will Scatchard in participating in the fund raiser March for Babies sponsored by the March of Dimes. It starts at the Charles River Hatch Shell at 11:30 a.m.

“I am very excited that we have organized two dozen of my friends and family members to march with me,” Scatchard said. “We have done a lot of planning, kick-off meetings, etc. and are still in the process of generating donations to go to this worthy cause” he went on to state.

The team was inspired by a recent presentation by Gayle Schumacher, a local resident, who’s family was directly impacted by the assistance of The March of Dimes when her son, Weston, was born close to four months prematurely.

The March of Dimes began as a grass roots organization to combat the polio disease that plagued our nation in the 1930’s. Since the eradication of this disease, the organization has shifted their primary goal and now supports research which offers hope for the prevention and solution for premature births.

Research and programs are conducted to ensure that one day, all babies will have a healthy start.
