Always a Super Bowl of Chili

Anticipating the Super Bowl on Super Bowl Sunday

In a few days it will be Super Bowl Sunday and it is an exciting day for football fans everywhere particularly since this year’s rivalry is between the NE Patriots and the NY Giants.

It seems that the Boston-New York contest makes the day all the more exciting.

For me personally, living in NY right out of college and maintaining my Boston allegiances was a challenge...any contest between the two cities has resonated as a major competition.

When I worked in NY I was always known as the Boston fan.... I would have to endure and watch out for my life if I sported a Red Sox or Patriot garment.

Moving back to Boston after a few years I felt much safer with my own kind (of fans).

Then through my own friendship circles and work connections came the transplanted New Yorkers. Embedding all areas of civilization including work, school, sports activities etc. There were more and more of them in the Boston area.

Thus although the majority of people I know are Boston sports fans there are those Yankee/Mets/Giants/Jets fans that we just need to deal with.

Ah if you can't guarantee to win favor through good sportsmanship, the best way is through eating and thus here come the many Super Bowl parties.

I personally love Super Bowl Sunday and look forward to this day every year. Ok, disclaimer, I am not a huge football fan unless the Patriots are in the Super Bowl and admit I often watch just because I love the commercials and half time shows.

Even if one of my own teams is not competing it is always a good reason to get together with friends and a day dedicated to watching a football game and munching on appetizers, chili, pizza, wine, beer can't be all that bad right?

We started to host parties after a visit to a local market many years ago when we tasted our way through the samples of munch food.

It became a great excuse to have a party and entertain. I love to cook and try new foods and having a venue such as the Super Bowl is a perfect time to have a "test kitchen".

I get to make many things but don't have to eat them all myself!!

One of my specialties each year has become "a SUPER BOWL of chili".

I enjoy trying new recipes and spices and hope to have a memorable experience with each bowl I make - a word of advise is to have a water bottle nearby.

We have had Super Bowl gatherings for the past several years and are particularly excited to have the Patriots compete this year.

So how does one prepare for such an event?

Keep reading the blogs online for recipe ideas.....make sure your TV works, gather your Patriots t-shirts and fan gear, invite over friends (potluck style is the easiest ) and rest your voice.

This year we will be all eyes on the TV as we watch Super Bowl XLVI.
