Help Support the D-S Cheer Squad in their Upcoming Fundraising Events

News from the sidelines of Dover Sherborn High School Cheerleaders

The Dover-Sherborn High School cheerleading team is always on the sidelines proudly supporting the DS Raiders through high and low temperatures, rain, sleet, and all types of New England weather.

Since September 2009 this self-funded team has become a mainstay at all DS football games both home and away- cheering and rallying for support to the high school fans, parents, and community at large with wide smiling faces.

You can see the team at all spirit events including games, pep rallies, the bonfire and of course the annual Thanksgiving game against Medfield.

Also, every Thursday night, the team captains secretly drop off a gift basket to a senior football player at his home.

Although a club team, the season gears up in August with a cheer camp and practice about two weeks before the start of the “official” season.

This year the help of an outside paid choreographer has brought the level of cheering to a new high.

The cheer program is completely self-funded and led through the volunteer efforts of head coach Patty Gallagher and her two assistant coaches, Cindy Holmes and me.

All of this effort clearly reflects and brings great pride to the DS culture.

The current team of 16 girls is extremely well-poised and can take on many challenges including doing push-up sets to match the Raiders score each time a touch down is achieved.

Many spectators are impressed at the level of synchronization and uniformity of the team and often ask if we compete.

Our answer is no, all of our efforts are focused on supporting the DS Raiders and building school team spirit.

We clearly work hard to achieve this goal. We now in turn need your support to continue our heartfelt efforts and are planning four fundraising events to sustain this goal as we continue to grow. We hope and encourage the DS community to help support us in whatever way possible.

Our upcoming events include:

1. “Warm your spirit” gift bags that include a handwarmer and chocolate bar at each game. These small bags are $5.00 each and will certainly “warm your spirit” on the cold upcoming games. These will be available at our remaining home games starting Friday Oct. 21-Nov. 11. Look for the basket near the DS fan zone.

2. On Saturday Oct. 22 we hold our annual car wash. This year it will be held at the Sherborn Fire House from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

3. On Sunday Oct. 23 the cheer team will be hosting a Papa Gino’s Medfield Pizza night from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A flyer will be circulated at the home game this Friday Oct. 21.

4. On Friday, Nov. 4 we will be holding our first-ever cheer clinic for students at Chickering and Pine Hill School in grades 3-5 from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Students will learn a few cheers and be able to perform a cheer at halftime with the high school team. In addition, pizza will be served to all participants. A fee of $20 per attendee will cover all costs and help towards our programming. For more info email wsbornstein@gmail.com

Lastly since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the cheerleaders and football players will be wearing pink accessories to highten the awareness of this disease at the next two home games on October 21 and 28. We invite you to come cheer and support our team with your Blue, Black and White (a spot of pink is invited for the 2 October games too!!).
