I am reading a book called "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin and am finding it to be very inspirational. In this blog and future blogs I will be writing about things that I am fortunate and thankful to be able to enjoy and share some of my passions. I am learning that its the little day-to-day things that make one happy versus the idea of a future event or expectation.
For example, a few days ago I was shopping at Trader Joes in Needham and was so excited to see the display of holiday treats and Thanksgiving samples. The buzz of hearing other shoppers comparing menu ideas and then having a cart overflowing with delicious food and appetizers for a busy weekend of guests put me in a total state of happiness as I strolled down each isle. The smells and tastes of typical orange and green foods and the memories of hearing one talk about their grandmas stuffing recipe made me yearn for a full course Thanksgiving feast.
But then I asked myself will the meal itself next Thursday be as much fun as the preparation and excitement of Thanksgiving dinner? Or is the true event the pre-holiday rituals such as running to the store because you forgot a key recipe ingredient. To me it is being caught up in the spirit and energy of other shoppers that made me relish and enjoy every moment of my initial venture to Trader Joes the other day and it did indeed put me in the holiday mood to look forward to Thanksgiving too!!
