Pep Rally and Spirit Week at D-S in Preparation for Turkey Day Game

Who's got the spirit!?

In preparation of the upcoming holidays Dover-Sherborn High School has Spirit Week this week that will culminate with a pep rally on Friday Nov. 18. At the pep rally each team will be greated by the D-S cheerleaders and captains from each fall team and will get up and speak about their accomplishments this fall.

This will also be the first time all high school students will see a new routine the cheer team has been working on all season. Even the high school band and chorus will share in the festivities.

Students from each grade will be competing to show who has the most school spirit. At the end of the day on Friday these students will be recognized for showing their true colors- Cindy Lauepler would be proud!

In conjunction with Spirit Week the Dover-Sherborn AFS clubs hosts AFS weekend starting on Nov. 16.  AFS (foreign exchange high school students) from all over the world who are on exchange and living with families in Massachusetts and Rhode Island come to Dover for a fun filled weekend.

Their visit starts with a dinner at a host family from D-S on Thursday night, Nov. 16, and on Friday the students come to school with their host student.

This day gives both students at D-S an opportunity to learn about students from other cultures and the AFS students a chance to come together as a group in an American academic environment.

During the day many of the faculty at D-S integrate conversations with the students into their curriculum to make the D-S students more globally aware. The visiting AFS students are introduced to the high school students during the pep rally and get a flavor of D-S school spirit.

On Friday night the AFS Club hosts an International Showcase Gala at 7:00 p.m. at Lindquist Commons. Students from the AFS Club and the high school take the stage in a variety style show. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00 per person with proceeds benefitting the AFS Club.

All of the events are a precursor to the upcoming bonfire and Thanksgiving day football game. Details for these will be on my next blog post so keep checking my blog.

What traditions do you bring home each year at Thanksgiving? Feel free to share this with the D-S Patch Blog Community.
