Who Shot J.R.?

As a dedicated fan of the original show of Dallas I am very excited to see the revival this week.

Are you a Dallas fan?

It seems like yesterday that this was the most pressing question that hit all the gossip columns and stirred most viewers of a serial soap opera called Dallas during the early 1980’s. These days it would be tweeted all over the place. This show and the Ewing clan were first introduced during my junior year of college.

On Friday nights all my college mates would crowd around the tv in the main lounge of my UMass dorm Patterson to watch the early episodes of the show. This ritual carried on through my post college years until the show ended after a twelve year run in 1990.

In a time before VCRs or Tivo dedicated watchers would stay home and plan their Friday evening around the show. This was my favorite Friday night activity and when I had to miss an episode I would call my friends the next day to catch me up on what I missed.

Since the show first aired I have been married, raised a family and participated in many other life-cycle events. I have even gone on a tour of the original Southfork ranch in Dallas and own a square inch of the property.

Curiously the show is being revived and will be aired Wednesday tonight on TNT as the next generation of Ewings takes over the Southfork family ranch. Check this link for a quick introduction..... http://www.tntdrama.com/series/dallas/thecharacters/

I am really excited to see the new show and now since I am not sure I can be glued to the TV have my DVR programmed for Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. The main characters of JR and Sue Ellen, Bobby and Pam now have their kids coming back to run the Ewing empire. It will be interesting to see how my perception of the family has changed in the years since the show first aired. Will this show start a new ritual for the my kids generation or will it just appeal to the dedicated diehards who watched the original? I can’t wait to see it but ask me next week!
