The proposed $3 million project will take place in three phases over a three to four year period and is expected to be funded privately.
Editor's Note: Jim Byrnes, spokesman for the D-S Boosters said that there have been limited talks between the Boosters and CPARC and that as of now both initiatives are scheluded to go forward as separate projects. He did however say the communication lines will be kept open and the focus will remain on best interests of the community. The following was provided by Jim Byrnes, spokesman for the D-S Boosters. A plan to improve the Dover-Sherborn High School (DSHS) athletic campus to alleviate problems of overuse of the fields was approved by the DS Regional School Committee this past January, and is moving forward. Huntress Associates is now under contract to complete the design details and assist in the selection of contractors to …

A letter to the editor from the Dover Rail Trail Committee.
To the residents of Dover: At the May 7 Town Meeting, Article 11 will request $5000 to continue the study of converting Dover’s rail bed into a rail trail. The presentation to be given at Town Meeting is an enhanced version of the one presented at the Warrant Committee’s Open Hearing on March 19 , which has been on the Town website since then (scroll down the home page and then scroll through the Open Hearing presentations). The Dover Rail Trail Committee would like to provide some background information to you prior to Town Meeting. Activity regarding the rail trail began 2 years ago. A trip to Fenway Park gets the memories flowing.
It's really not about the actual structure. Truth be told, the place looks every bit of its 100 years. After nine innings, your body is a crooked mess. Unless you are under 5 feet 5 inches and weigh less than 140 pounds, you are going to be very uncomfortable for three or so hours. It costs a fortune to attend a game these days. Hot dogs come with a loan application to purchase them. You know not to even try to drive there. Still, Fenway Park is what it is. With all its warts, it's ours. After all, Fenway is a place where memories live on. How many things is our lives are still even standing 100 years later? Places like that are few and far between. In a way, Fenway is really our own fountain of youth, a place where we go to remember …

Corporations have made employee health and wellness a priority because it directly affects the bottom line. Government has mandated the same for public schools because health and wellness makes students successful in school and beyond. Dover-Sherborn Schools Wellness Policy brings together a dozen important principles under one umbrella and gives students the tools they need for a healthy lifestyle. As part of the 2004 Child Nutrition Act, the US government acknowledged the important role of schools in lifestyle behaviors, requiring them to promote wellness and combat growing rates of obesity and disease. In response, the Dover-Sherborn schools implemented a number of cafeteria changes to improve the nutritional value of school lunches. …

Top 10 baseball movies of all time are listed. What are your favorite baseball movies of all time?
With another baseball season under way, it's time to go to the movies with our bats and gloves. Here's a look at the top 10 baseball movies in this scribe's opinion. 10- For the Love of the Game (1999)- Kevin Costner is an aging all-star pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, who has one last game in his right arm, facing the New York Yankees. Vin Scully says, "he isn't pitching against the Yankees, he's pitching against time." Through nine innings, Costner traces his life and his relationship with Kelly Preston. Guys, the women in your life, will like this one. 9. Fever Pitch (2005)-This movie was a little over the top. Us, you know, Red Sox fans, are nothing like the Jimmy Fallon character. That's absurd. Of course, as I write this, I have a …

A recent poll shows Massachusetts is up there with the least-religious states.
Gallup recently published a poll that listed the most, and least, religious states in the country. The poll showed that the most religious states included Mississippi, Utah and Alabama, while Massachusetts ranked as being 28-percent "very religious," which was only slightly higher than the least: Vermont and New Hampshire. "Gallup classifies 40 percent of Americans nationwide as very religious—based on their statement that religion is an important part of their daily life and that they attend religious services every week or almost every week. Another 32 percent of Americans are nonreligious, based on their statement that religion is not an important part of their daily life and that they seldom or never attend religious services. The …

The Easter Bunny meets twin chickens.
I'm not getting an Easter basket this year. Years ago, that would have been good news for my big sister. While I still believe in the Easter Bunny, Easter baskets have become a thing of the past. When I did get them, I always ended up with the best toys and the best candy. Way better than my big sister ever got. Here was the game plan for the Easter Bunny arrival: Back then, I figured the Easter Bunny came somewhere between 2:30 and 4:30 a.m. My mom was a night owl, so I figure he waited until she was asleep. I would set my alarm clock for 5 a.m., wake up and head for the living room where the baskets would be. The Easter Bunny was always fair. There would be a big chocolate Easter rabbit, chocolate eggs, a stuffed animal and a bunch of …

The following is a letter to the editor by Dover Parks and Recreation Commission member Rich Oasis in response to a previous letter to the editor "Letter: Dover Resident Wants Collaboration Between Caryl Park and D-S Schools Field Expansion Projects" Last week the Dover Patch printed a letter from Barbara Palmer, a neighbor of Caryl Park. On behalf of the Dover Parks & Recreation Commission, I wanted to respond to her letter as she raises some important issues. We understand Ms. Palmer’s concern that the cost of maintaining the facilities would fall to the taxpayers a “decade or so down the road.” This is a common concern and we have stated since the beginning of the CPARC project that Dover Parks & Recreation would collect annual field …

it might not be clear on the drawing provided but the plan calls for a relocation of the softball field - the current JV field will get several upgrades and has a better sun orientation. It also has irrigation to keep the outfield grass in better condition and less dust on the infield. A new JV field will be build on the Junction Street field. No fields are being eliminated in this plan - some …   more ›
