A bus carrying members of the Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team, which has a Sherborn player on its roster, was involved in a traffic accident on Interstate 87, in Clifton Park, N.Y., Tuesday. A Ravens cheerleader has been making headlines for the reasons she says she was banned from cheering on Super Bowl Sunday.
The story of a Baltimore Ravens cheerleader who said she was disciplined for weight gain—and believes this is a reason she was left behind from the Super Bowl—has been making headlines across the country. Cheerleader Courtney Lenz said she thinks her team didn't take her to the Super Bowl was because she gained 1.6 pounds. Admittedly, her story has changed through the week: Yahoo Sports noted she first said the team was upset because she had chosen to retire at the end of the season. She later told Good Morning America she thought the decision was because of her weigh-in. The alleged snub led to supporters starting an online petition to reinstate her, The Huffington Post reported. The team has said they picked cheerleaders for the Super …

I was wondering who would care about this story and why anyone would waste their time on writing it and then I saw it was from the Hufffington Post and that explained it all. I dont think I have ever read anything interesting or factual in that rag.   more ›
Junior Seau's family is suing the NFL and President Obama says that, if he had a son, he would think twice before letting him play football.
The issue of concussions in football is back in the forefront of people’s minds now that: In an article released on Jan. 27, President Obama told The Republican, I'm a big football fan, but I have to tell you if I had a son, I'd have to think long and hard before I let him play football...I tend to be more worried about college players than NFL players in the sense that the NFL players have a union, they're grown men, they can make some of these decisions on their own, and most of them are well-compensated for the violence they do to their bodies. You read some of these stories about college players who undergo some of these same problems with concussions and so forth and then have nothing to fall back on. That's something that I'd like to…

My opinion about football at the adult level is this: I saw Wes Welker get head butted twice during the playoffs directly in front of the referee and neither hit was called. The referee should be fined just as the football player should be fined, heavily. Until they get serious about it the dirty players will continue to do it and the refs will continue to let it slide.   more ›
Outdoor enthusiasts have been waiting two years for good ice. This week they may finally get that; at their own risk.
If you haven't noticed yet, it's cold outside, very cold. For some people however, the cold is a good sign. Many types of outdoor sports require strong, safe ice. There's pond hockey, ice fishing and some snowmobile trails that cross ponds. Last week, fire departments across the region were saying they would not recommend going out on the ice. Many departments refrain from saying the ice is safe to err on the side of caution. "Based on my training and experience, the only 'safe' ice is that of an indoor rink," Holliston Fire Chief Michael Cassidy said. However, for residents that are willing to take the risk on ice safety, the cold weather is great for their morale. "It is likely that some back yard temperatures in the usual cold spots …
