Here are some things to know in Dover-Sherborn.

1. Today is Yom Kippur. There is no school in Dover-Sherborn. 2. Governor Deval Patrick will chat live on Patch tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. If you have any questions be sure to log on and ask them. 3. The Sherborn Library will have storytime tomorrow at 11 a.m. It is recommended for ages 2-5. 4. On Friday the Dover Town Library will have its storytime at 10:30 a.m. All ages are welcome. 5. 1. The Dover Republican Town Committee will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Dover Town Library. 2. Fourth District Congressional candidate Sean Bielat will be speaking to Dover-Sherborn High School government classes today. 3. Tomorrow the Pine Hill School will have Open House for parents and guardians of students in grades 4 & 5 from 7-8 p.m. 4. Former Dover Library Assistant Named Director of Arlington Library

Former assistant director of the Dover Town Library Ryan Livergood has been named the new director of the Robbins Library in Arlington.

ARLINGTON- A new town library director has been named. Ryan Livergood, the assistant director and head of adult services at Robbins Library, will move into the position, according to Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine, who made the call and recently agreed to terms with Livergood. Livergood, who was the assistant director in Dover before coming to Arlington last summer, will replace longtime library director Maryellen Remmert-Loud. Remmert-Loud, who is set to retire, served as Arlington’s library director for 27 years and even worked at Fox Branch Library as a teenager.  A retirement reception will be held for Remmert-Loud on Thursday, April 12, from 4 to 7 p.m., in Robbins’ Reading Room. Dover Town Library Named Finalist for Best Small Library in America

"The positive feedback regarding our changes and outcry of support has been the greatest reward!"

The Dover Town Library was recently named a runner-up for Library Journal's Best Small Library in America 2012. The recognition comes on the heels of major renovations and a shift in culture at the library that director Cheryl Abdullah feels has changed the way the library can serve the town of Dover. "The 6,034 people of Dover find Kindles, Nooks, iPads, and iTouches in the collection and use them at the tech bar in the center of the library or take home. The whole collection is QR coded, intermingling digital assets with print in an open, mobile, wiki environment. In recent renovations the staff translated their favorite places—the Apple store, gardens, bookstores, and museums—into new library areas so use exploded and dollar donations …

Local Photographer is Dover Library's December Artist of the Month

Dover resident and local photographer Marlayne Brace's work will be on display until the end of the month.

Dover photographer Marlayne Brace currently has her work on display at the Dover Town Library after being selected as their Artist of the Month for December. Brace, who started selling her work two years ago, began by taking closeups of nature, focusing on things that are very small that the casual person might overlook in order to bring them to the forefront. She said she focuses on the parts of nature that are calming and soothing and work with individuals to capture those moods and feelings in specialized projects. Brace has photographed gardens, created photo books, created themed displays for offices, hallways, walls, rooms, etc. She has recently expanded her subject matter to landscapes and buildings. Dover Historical Society Sponsors Lecture On “Christmas in New England”

Part of the presentation will explain how Christmas was transformed from a rowdy celebration to a family centered event.

Kenneth Turino will speak on "Christmas in New England" with illustrations and descriptions of the years 1770-1900 on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dover Town Library. The program is sponsored by the Dover Historical Society. Turino will trace the celebration of Christmas from the time it was outlawed in seventeenth century New England through the beginning of the twentieth century when all the trappings of a traditional Christmas were in place. Turino is the Manager of Exhibitions at Historic New England. The illustrated lecture will describe how many of the customs which we take for granted as part of the current holiday festivities and religious celebrations are actually a product of more recent history. Here are the top winners of the pumpkin carving contest.

The Dover Town Library held a pumpkin carving contest called the Pumpkin Celebration People's Choice Awards. They announced their winners today. First prize went to Scott Campbell for his SpongeBob SquarePants pumpkin.
